About the role

The Assistant Dean of External Affairs & Development (AD) is a key leadership role within the Berkeley School of Information. Reporting directly to the Dean, this position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies in fundraising, marketing, communications, and alumni engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies for the School of Information.
  • Directs programs and services for alumni and donor engagement.
  • Oversees a comprehensive marketing and communications team.
  • Manages a team of 4 positions and serves as a liaison internally and across campus.
  • Works closely with the Dean and senior leadership team to establish philanthropic priorities for the school and faculty.
  • Serves as a liaison to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) of Constituent Programs (CP), University Development & Alumni Relations (UDAR).

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fundraising, marketing, and communications.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a team.
  • Experience in alumni engagement and donor relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science, Business Administration, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in higher education or related fields.
  • Experience in product management or web services librarianship is preferred.
  • Knowledge of information law and ethics is beneficial.
