Assistant Credit Manager

About the Role
A premier North American building materials and industrial products manufacturer is seeking a sharp, highly organized, and ambitious Assistant Credit Manager to join its corporate headquarters near LAX. This is a newly created position designed for an independent, high-performing individual contributor who can evaluate commercial credit risk, analyze large receivables portfolios, manage complex collections, and act as the primary backup to the Credit Manager. The ideal candidate thrives with minimal direction, exhibits steady long-term employment tenure, and possesses expert-level Excel capabilities for raw data manipulation.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate customer financial statements, payment histories, trade references, and D&B reports to set/adjust appropriate credit limits and terms.
- Monitor aging reports, resolve complex payment disputes, negotiate structured payment plans for high-risk accounts, and support cash applications in legacy ERP/AS400 systems.
- Transform raw, unformatted aging and credit data into clean Excel spreadsheets; perform VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas, and custom reporting for management and customers.
- Maintain and operate major national retailer portals and customer payment platforms.
- Serve as backup to the Credit Manager, providing technical guidance, coaching, and work delegation to AR specialists and analysts.
- Support annual external financial audits by preparing account reconciliations, bad debt reserve analyses, and detailed supporting schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 8+ years of dedicated commercial (B2B) credit, accounts receivable, or trade collections experience.
- Direct experience in manufacturing, building products, construction materials, wholesale distribution, or industrial supply is strongly preferred but not required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, raw data manipulation).
- Hands-on experience with legacy ERP systems (AS400/IBM i series) is a major plus.
- Highly agile, self-directed, and detail-oriented with a proven ability to manage complex projects without hands-on oversight.

Pay
Base Compensation: $68,000 – $113,000 / year (Flexible for top-tier candidates) + Discretionary Performance Bonus
