About the role

The Assistant Cost Manager is responsible for all independent construction cost control functions for review of construction projects change orders, including complete estimates, value analysis, schedule of values, comparisons, assisting with feasibility studies, and historical cost reports. This individual can perform cost control functions on multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously and should have the ability to identify opportunities within a project that will add value and help successfully accomplish the client’s desired project outcome.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of construction-related cost estimates, cost plans, and cost strategies
  • Change order reviews and valuations of work in progress and bid analyses
  • Preparation of studies and plans on value engineering, life cycle costing, and sustainable practices
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Maintains cost database by entering and backing up data
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned
  • Contributes to team performance by collaboration and effective communication
  • Understands the client’s desired project outcomes and identifies opportunities to add value

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field
  • Recent experience and specialty in electrical and mechanical cost strategies
  • Cost control experience in the commercial, institutional, or industrial sector concentrating on vertical construction
  • Experience with conceptual and detailed measurement/pricing
  • Experience in CMGC/GCCM process
  • Experience with estimating software systems, on-screen takeoff software, and BIM

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Pay

$58,500 - $76,000

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Indoor office environment
  • May require work on-site when necessary
  • Equipment used includes computers and standard office machines
  • Essential physical tasks include the ability to work on a computer and speak on a telephone
