About the role
The City of Chicago Department of Law is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor in our Real Estate and Land Use Division. The Real Estate and Land Use Division advises city departments and City Council on zoning and land use issues and assists client departments with real estate transactions.
Responsibilities
- Advise city departments on zoning/entitlements, landmark, and procedural matters
- Handle drafting ordinances, letters of intent, purchase and redevelopment agreements, leases (including ground leases), intergovernmental agreements, easement agreements, and other transactional documents
- Prepare ancillary closing documents
- Analyze due diligence, including title, survey, environmental, appraisal and other reports
- Attend and participate in City Council, board, and commission meetings
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of broad experience in real estate transactional matters
- Superior research, legal analysis and writing skills
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational, problem solving, and teamwork skills
- The ability to take ownership of and complete tasks without direct supervision
- The ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
- A commitment to public service and a strong interest in government
Qualifications
- Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705), good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission

$122,148.00 - $169,020.00 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
