About the role
This entry-level position supports the maintenance and upkeep of the training grounds and surrounding landscape areas at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) Training Center. The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on outdoor work, are comfortable working in all weather conditions, and can accommodate a flexible schedule that includes early mornings and some evenings, weekends, and holidays, while helping maintain world-class training grounds.
Responsibilities
Sports Turf Maintenance Tasks
- Pitch mowing
- Pitch preparation (painting, goal set up, line striping, etc)
- Tractor operation
- Pedestrian mowing / verticutting / brushing
Grounds Maintenance Tasks
- Landscape mowing
- Weed eating and edging
- Mulching
- Debris blowing
Additional Responsibilities
- Work in a team manner with other full-time & part-time Sports Turf & Grounds staff, along with staff across the entire organization
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the KC Current’s mission to become the best women’s soccer club in the world
Requirements
- Interest in sports turf, landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor facility maintenance
- Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding outdoor work
- Ability and willingness to learn and safely operate landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Positive attitude with a willingness to take direction and learn new skills
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
- Must be able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight
- Previous experience in landscaping, lawn care, groundskeeping, agriculture, construction, or related outdoor work is preferred but not required
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and some evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver's license preferred
Special Requirements
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and some evenings, weekends, and holidays to support training, facility, and event operations
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation
- Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions
- Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
