About the role

Our client is a well-established venture capital investment firm with approximately $5 billion in assets under management seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing finance organization. This is a newly created position and the second accounting hire on the team, offering the opportunity to work directly with an accomplished Chief Financial Officer and play a key role in building a scalable finance function. The ideal candidate is technically strong, thrives in a lean, entrepreneurial environment, and enjoys taking ownership across all aspects of fund accounting and corporate finance. This position offers significant visibility to firm leadership and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact as the organization continues to grow.

The ideal candidate profile is someone who began their career in the tax practice of a public accounting firm before transitioning into an accounting role within a venture capital, private equity, or alternative investment firm -or- has a strong accounting background gained within an investment management or alternative asset management organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the CFO in overseeing the firm's accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Manage the accounting and reporting for multiple investment funds and related entities.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Coordinate capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting.
  • Assist with fund audits and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Review fund expenses, allocations, and partner capital activity.
  • Support tax compliance by coordinating with external tax advisors and reviewing partnership tax deliverables.
  • Assist with treasury, cash management, and liquidity planning.
  • Develop and enhance accounting policies, internal controls, and operational processes.
  • Participate in special projects, process improvements, and initiatives supporting the continued growth of the firm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of partnership accounting and investment fund structures.
  • Experience within venture capital, private equity, hedge funds, or other alternative investment firms is highly preferred.

Pay

$145-160K + 20% Bonus
