Assistant Controller
Key Responsibilities
- Treasury & Cash Management
- Oversee daily cash management and treasury operations, including monitoring of bank balances, cash positioning, and liquidity across all entities.
- Manage banking relationships and administer bank accounts, signers, online banking access, and account openings/closings.
- Aid the Controller in cash flow projection analysis to support operating, investment, and distribution decisions.
- Oversee the funding of operating accounts, capital calls, distributions, and intercompany transfers for corporate entities.
- Administer corporate line of credit and corporate loans to individual properties as needed.
- Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Support the Controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for corporate entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements. Also assist with commercial division closing when needed.
- Aid the Controller in various analyses that support the decision-making process for Leasing, Operation and Construction departments.
- Oversee intercompany transactions, corporate billbacks and related reconciliations.
- Manage legal entity formations, update org charts as needed, track and maintain entity related legal documents.
- Serve as a point of contact for loan covenants and lender reporting requirements.
- Support the Controller in ad-hoc projects.
- Tax Management
- Support the Controller in managing the company’s tax compliance function across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, including income, franchise, property, sales/use, and business license taxes.
- Prepare tax packages for corporate entities.
- Work with the Commercial Accounting Manager to ensure timely payments of all taxes.
- Aid the Controller in tax implications analysis for real estate transactions, in coordination with advisors.
- Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Help design, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting, tax, and treasury processes through systems and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8—12 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and treasury/cash management functions.
- Experience in real estate, property management, or a multi-entity environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or comparable).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with partnership taxation, 1031 exchanges, and cost segregation.
