This position supports the Vice President & Controller in the management of the accounting function and assists in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role plays a key leadership part in the monthly close process, account reconciliations, job cost accounting oversight, financial analysis, and support of accounting team members across multiple divisions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in preparing monthly reporting packages and required submissions to corporate/home office.
- Review transactions and financial data to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support external audits, internal audits, and tax-related requests.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
- Review processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the Controller in managing the accounting department.
- Provide guidance and training to staff accountants and accounting personnel.
- Assist with workload prioritization and departmental projects.
- Serve as a resource for divisional accounting questions and issue resolution.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes.
- Participate in accounting system implementations, upgrades, and integrations.
- Develop and maintain reporting tools to improve visibility and decision-making.
- Assist with special projects, acquisitions, integrations, and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA designation preferred.
- 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior construction, real estate development, or homebuilding industry experience preferred.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) – Advanced Excel skills.
- KOVA software (ability to learn).
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
