About the role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our growing manufacturing company. This position will play a critical role in managing the day-to-day accounting functions, overseeing the monthly close process, supporting cost accounting and inventory controls, and assisting the Controller with financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and operational analysis.
Responsibilities
- Aid the Controller in managing all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting
- Lead and coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations
- Support and monitor cost accounting functions, including standard costing, variance analysis, labor and overhead allocations, and product costing
- Analyze manufacturing variances and operational performance metrics
- Prepare internal financial statements and management reports
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls
- Support internal audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including Staff Accountants and AP/AR personnel
- Partner with operations, production, purchasing, and supply chain teams to improve financial accuracy and operational efficiency
- Assist with ERP system enhancements, reporting automation, and process improvement initiatives
- Support strategic financial projects and other duties as assigned by the Group Controller or CFO
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA designation preferred
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of SOX, GAAP, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and financial reporting
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
- Experience with ERP systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
