Assistant Controller
About the role
The Assistant Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and plays a key role in scaling LifeMoves' financial operations. They manage the accounting team, oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance, and support strategic financial planning.
Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert for federal, state, and local regulations, focusing on CFR compliance for federal grants.
- Manage and mentor the accounting staff, providing training and development to build a high-performing finance team.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate, timely, and actionable financial data for the Board and senior leadership.
- Support the Controller in managing daily operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and the General Ledger.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of public funding agreements, ensuring all expenditures meet "allowability, allocability, and reasonableness" standards.
- Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes to increase organizational agility.
- Collaborate across teams to translate complex accounting principles into clear insights for non-finance professionals.
- Drive the preparation and submission of the Indirect Cost Rate Proposal, including the development of supporting schedules, rate information narratives, and the Certificate of Indirect Costs.
- Contribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and long-term strategic financial analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification highly preferred.
- 6 to 8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including at least 1 to 2 years in leadership.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and a high degree of comfort with complex financial reporting.
- Experience in the non-profit sector and a strong understanding of federal grant requirements (CFR).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems and make data-driven decisions.

- Proficiency in modern accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Sage Intacct).
- Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills (including pivot tables, V-lookups, and data modeling).
- A track record of using technology to automate manual processes.

Supervises 3-4 finance team members.
