Our Nassau County, New York headquarters supports 45+ healthcare locations across Long Island, NYC, Westchester, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Upstate. We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented, and self-directed Assistant Controller to strengthen our accounting and financial operations.

About the role

The Assistant Controller will manage day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end close processes, budgeting support, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with the SVP of Finance and Accounting, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information while supporting strategic financial initiatives and organizational growth. Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing all accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, general ledger activities, and financial reporting.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify variances from budget and forecasts, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist with payroll processing, employee compensation calculations, and benefits-related accounting activities.
  • Coordinate and support regulatory reporting requirements and external audits.
  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues and assist with implementation of accounting standards.
  • Support cash flow management, banking relationships, and treasury functions.
  • Assist in monitoring project profitability, operational metrics, and team utilization reporting.
  • Help optimize accounting systems and processes to improve efficiencies and reporting capabilities.
  • Support financial system administration, including QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and other financial applications.
  • Assist with tax filings, audits, insurance renewals, and other compliance-related activities.
  • Coordinate with and prepare reports and financial analyses for the CFO, SVP Finance and Accounting, and Executive Leadership.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to accounting staff as assigned.
  • Participate in strategic financial planning and organizational initiatives.
  • Develop and document accounting procedures, workflows, and process improvements.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Public accounting and/or audit experience required.
  • Advanced accounting and financial reporting knowledge required.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial controls.
  • Experience with multi-location organizations preferred.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Experience with accounting systems, including QuickBooks and related financial platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and team-oriented approach.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week.

Pay

Starting at $110,000 annually.
