About the role
Power Solutions is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the Controller and CFO in managing the company's accounting operations within a fast-paced commercial electrical construction environment. This leadership role supports financial reporting, assists with monthly close activities, financial controls, and partners closely with project management.
Responsibilities
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Review job cost reporting, contract status, and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules to ensure accurate project financial reporting.
- Partner with Project Managers to analyze project performance, budgets, costs, and profitability.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and SOX compliance procedures.
- Coordinate on internal and external audits, providing supporting schedules and documentation.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Perform other accounting and financial projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA required (active or inactive).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive construction accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Job costing
- Percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting
- Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
- General ledger accounting and financial close
- Experience with construction ERP systems such as Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Sage 300 (Timberline), Foundation, or similar.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and SOX compliance.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with AIA billing and contract administration.
- Experience working in a SOX-compliant or publicly traded company environment.
- Experience leading ERP implementations or accounting process automation initiatives.
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
- Experience in commercial electrical or specialty trade contracting.
