About the role

Ensures accurate and timely management of financial statements, general ledgers, journal entries, supporting workpapers, and management.

Prepares monthly financial statements in accordance with the Monthly Financial Statement Closing Schedule and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Keeps the Controller informed of significant financial reporting issues.

Reviews and analyzes detailed balance sheet and operations reports prepared by accountants and provides review comments as needed.

Maintains technical competence in general accounting principles and actively stays updated on healthcare industry changes.

Uses PC applications appropriately and maintains good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Technical

Maintains an adequate level of technical competence.

Keeps up-to-date on major changes in the healthcare environment.

Pursues and participates in continuing professional education programs.

Holds a good working knowledge of PC applications and uses them when appropriate.

Communication (Verbal and Nonverbal)

Clearly and concisely presents ideas in a professional manner.

Adjusts communication style to fit changing environments and sells ideas effectively.

Demonstrates a supportive attitude towards department goals and objectives.

Follows up with staff to ensure projects are completed on time.

Supervisory

Supervises and motivates staff by developing their skills, directing their efforts, and evaluating their performance.

Takes responsibility for staff reporting to him/her.

Reviews staff personal development plans and evaluations on time.

Reviews the work of those reporting to him/her.

Communicates staff performance to the supervisor regularly.

Team work

Works well with other members of the financial team.

Supports other team members by offering assistance when possible.

Participates in team activities and projects.

Planning

Works with the Controller to direct operational plans, resource allocation, and policies of the department.

Collaborates with others to plan services in response to identified community needs.

Communicates departmental plans throughout the department.

Participates in meetings, forums, or other activities focused on strategic planning, revenue and capital, expense, and personnel budgets.

Selects contract services.

Directing Services

Aids the Controller in organizing services in a manner commensurate with the scope of services offered.

Gives input to the Controller on all personnel functions and implements corrective action when necessary.

Facilitates innovation and motivates staff to implement the department's strategy, operational program, and other plans.

Implementing and Coordinating Services

Performs staff duties during periods of high workload.

Completes annual goals and objectives as set.

Improving Services (Quality Improvement)

Establishes expectations, plans, sets priorities, and manages processes to measure, assess, and implement improvements within the department.

Submits required monthly summary reports to the Quality Improvement Director by the specified deadline.

Fiscal Responsibility

Collaborates with appropriate staff in the development of the departmental budget.

Remains within established budget limits for capital expenditures, operating costs, wages/salaries, and other expenses.

Professional Conduct

Willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department as needed or determined by management.

Follows established hospital and department policies.

No more than 2 written substantiated complaints representing a breach of policy, procedure, or professional behavior since the last evaluation.

Participates in group projects and staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity.

Communicates well with supervisor, reporting problems with equipment, supplies, or procedures.

Requests assistance as appropriate.

Maintains confidentiality as related to job responsibilities.

Projects a positive professional image through appearance and behavior.

Attends 75% of staff meetings or reads and initials minutes.

Completes assigned work within the shift.

Guest/Interdepartmental Relations

Conducts interactions professionally as observed by representatives of management.

Verbal and written feedback from patients, family members/significant others, medical staff, visitors, and co-workers indicates behavior conducive to positive guest relations.

Consistently exhibits appropriate phone protocol.

Consistently displays a cheerful and positive attitude.

Professional Growth and Development

Completes annual safety updates within established time frames.

Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.

Attends 80% of in-service programs.

Maintains certification as appropriate.

Strives to understand, anticipate, and meet the needs, expectations, and satisfaction levels of patients and other "customers."

Brought errors and inefficiencies to management's attention with suggestions for improvement.

Identifies methods of controlling costs or generating revenue while providing maximum value to both the patient/customer and the hospital.

Maximizes efficiency in all departmental operations.

Measures progress against quality goals.
