Assistant Controller

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and validating financial information by: Reviewing general journal entries and validating with supporting documentation
• Auditing compliance with internal controls and practices
• Identifying anomalies and independently investigating and validating prior to posting
• Resolving any discrepancies and providing documentation and/or explanation and resolution
• Reconciling, resolving issues with, and reporting on alignment of sub-ledger accounts with the general ledger
• Serving as a resource for effective financial decision making by: Completing monthly reports and account reconciliations
• Generating trial balances to identify errors and follow up with corrections
• Ensuring reconciled items are cleared in a timely manner to support accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
• Developing customized reports
• Preparing draft financial statements and verifying against trial balance and other customized reports
• Reviewing final financial statements for accuracy and completeness
• Supporting and contributing to the success of the department by: Validating appropriate practices, procedures and controls are in place to generate timely and accurate invoicing
• Ensuring government filings are completed in a timely and efficient manner
• Recommending continuous improvement to accounting processes and systems
• Sharing expertise with less senior staff and supporting their ongoing development
• Assisting with job-costing analysis, and other miscellaneous financial projects

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA)
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in the industrial or commercial sector
