Assistant Coach, Swimming & Diving

About the Role

Assist the Head Coach by serving as the second assistant coach with responsibility in numerous facets of the program. Key areas include instructing student-athletes on skills and techniques, educating on sport-specific rules and NCAA requirements, assessing comprehension, and preparing the team for competition and practice. An emphasis on film reviewing and breakdown skills, including experience with clipping and editing game footage, is highly desirable. The assistant coach must perform duties in compliance with all College, Patriot League, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities (60%)

• Provide individual and team instruction to student-athletes on:
  • Rules and fundamentals
  • Skill attainment
  • Techniques and methods required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in a safe manner
  • Team concepts
• Provide individualized coaching, tutoring, and mentoring to student-athletes, including preparatory work such as:
  • Assessing student-athlete skill attainment demonstrated during practice, competition, and in films of both
  • Reviewing video of opponent performance and designing individualized and team instruction
  • Determining specific daily practice activities
  • Developing instruction for individual student-athletes and specific team needs
  • Determining pre-competition activities on days of competition
  • Attending workshops and training sessions to research methods for providing training and instruction on rules, fundamentals, team concepts, physical health, safety, skill attainment, and conference rules and regulations

Secondary Responsibilities (40%)

• Administrative Duties (20%):
  • Reviewing film to present to staff and team on current and opposition performance
  • Administering sport camps as directed by the head coach and/or Athletics Administration
• Recruiting (20%):
  • Identifying talent
  • Initiating and organizing communication with recruits and coaching staff

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 1–3 years of prior experience instructing and coaching, preferably at the Division I level
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Computer and video editing skills strongly encouraged; ability to code and evaluate film

Schedule

This is a part-time, exempt position requiring 15 hours per week from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

Pay

The salary for this opportunity is $10,000.
