Assistant Coach - Men's Golf

Primary Purpose

Affords assistance to the Head Coach in managing the men's golf intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge and compliance with rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics while operating within the department's rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Participate in the efficient recruitment, instruction, and coaching of student-athletes, focusing on fundamentals, conditioning, game preparation, and strategy.
  • Create an environment prioritizing academics, ensuring all student-athletes meet academic requirements, and integrating sports into the academic life of the University.
  • Prepare an annual written plan and goals for the program and assess performance against these plans and goals annually.
  • Maintain discipline within the program, fostering fairness, understanding, and protection of student-athletes, while motivating them.
  • Maintain a cooperative and continuously improving atmosphere, maintaining positive communications supporting the athletic program, the University, and University staff.
  • Engage in marketing and promotional activities with media, alumni, and civic groups in alignment with the athletic program's objectives.
  • Assist in evaluating, planning official visits, and travel-related activities for prospective student-athletes.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities for the men's golf program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act, reporting crimes as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the sport of golf.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of NCAA and/or West Coast Conference Rules and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPR certification required by the end of the introductory period of appointment.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade, encourage, and motivate team members.
  • Possesses a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working successfully with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements

Requires ability to perform physical activities related to sport. Frequent time spent standing and walking. Occasional climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Work performed in standard office or athletic venues. Requires flexibility in schedule to meet recruiting, game, and event schedules. Extensive travel required both nationally and internationally. Valid driver's license required. Must comply with University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business.

Hiring Range

$70,304 - $74,000 per year.
