About the role

Responsibilities
- Use independent judgment and discretion to instruct, educate, and train student-athletes on the rules, strategies, and techniques of the applicable sport.
- Ensure student-athletes understand, comply, and abide by NCAA, NEC Conference, and University of New Haven rules and regulations.
- Manage various issues with student-athletes in an effective and professional manner.
- Instruct and demonstrate proper game techniques, strategies, and use of equipment.
- Work closely with the Head Coach to evaluate student-athletes' strengths and weaknesses and develop programs to optimize their performance.
- Identify, monitor, and recruit quality student-athletes who will contribute to the University's athletic program.
- Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions using sound motor learning principles and sport-specific techniques.
- Stay informed about any changes in rules, techniques, or equipment associated with the applicable sport.
- Scout opposing teams using various technology resources and assist in developing scouting reports.
- Keep accurate records of players' progress and use this information to help develop and train student-athletes.
- Aid the Strength and Conditioning staff in supervising the teams' strength and conditioning program.
- Organize and confirm team travel needs such as transportation, accommodation, and meals as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Previous playing and/or coaching experience in the sport preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of, and proven ability, to educate students in the sport.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully coach at the collegiate level.
- Strong leadership, verbal, and written communication, and motivational skills.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of NCAA and NEC Conference rules and regulations.
- Proficiency in using technology for scouting and record-keeping.
