About the Role
This full-time Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball position reports to the Men’s Basketball Head Coach and Athletic Director. The role involves assisting in the management and direction of the Men’s Basketball program, with responsibilities spanning coaching, recruitment, travel coordination, academic monitoring, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach with management and direction of the Men’s Basketball program.
- Maintain up-to-date statistics and provide them to the appropriate entity.
- Arrange team travel for away games and recruiting.
- Assist in the development of practice and game schedules.
- Scout opponents and develop team scouting reports.
- Assist in planning strategy for games.
- Supervise dorm and cafeteria activities.
- Assist with the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries.
- Develop and execute a recruitment plan for student-athletes.
- Actively participate in community relations initiatives.
- Conduct camps to provide community service to youth in the service area.
- Track the academic progress of each player in all classes.
- Teach fundamental skills and drills.
- Develop a weight training and fitness program.
- Assist in the development and implementation of study hall, requiring all students to attend.
- Establish and maintain an ethical and moral code of behavior for players on and off campus.
- Perform additional tasks as requested by the Head Coach or Athletic Director, such as camps, clinics, or concession stands.
- Serve as an instructor in the PHED Program or as an administrator in another area with comparable duties.
- Act as a visible representative of Angelina College in the community, modeling professionalism and integrity.
- Develop and demonstrate soft skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
- Engage in outreach, events, and service opportunities to strengthen community relationships and student success.
- Document public relations and community engagement activities for athletic administration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word and Excel) and web browsers.
- Public service orientation with the ability to foster good relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community.
- Ability to stay abreast of current and developing trends in audio, video, and data.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace tools like Docs, Sheets, and Drive.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, sport, recreation management, or a related field.
- Experience supervising and training employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Some travel may be required.

Pay
$28,944.00 per year, in addition to excellent employee benefits.
