Assistant Coach - Boys Soccer (Leuzinger)

Location: Leuzinger High School – 2026-2027 school year. Coaching stipend per Collective Bargaining Agreement for current employees; $4,476 per season for walk-on coaches.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach of the Boys Soccer Varsity team, aids in the development of lower-level teams, and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Coach in developing multiple levels of the program.
  • Supervise players during practices, games, and off-site trips.
  • Prepare fields on game days and assist with logistics as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Use instructional techniques to improve players’ skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.
  • Assess players’ skills and support game strategy determined by the Head Coach.
  • Enforce student discipline and encourage sportsmanlike conduct at all times.
  • Take precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including preventing hazing/bullying.
  • Maintain, secure, clean, repair, and store all equipment and uniforms.
  • Represent the Centinela Valley Union High School District and program professionally.
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or administrator.

Requirements

  • Experience playing or coaching soccer.
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate, and analyze fundamental skills and strategies.
  • Meet all CIF coaching requirements and certifications.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of CIF rules and regulations pertaining to soccer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum:
    • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching or Sport-Specific certification.
    • NFHS Concussion in Sports (renewed every 2 years).
    • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest (renewed every 2 years).
    • NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (renewed every 2 years).
    • Valid CPR/First-Aid certification.
  • Desirable:
    • At least two years of experience as a varsity coach at the high school, college, or professional level.
    • Experience as a college or professional athlete.
    • Demonstrated success in developing a team with high academic achievement.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of soccer and current coaching techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of NFHS and CIF rules and regulations.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to relate to students and teach them on and off the field.
  • Professional demeanor with high accountability and motivational intensity.
