Assistant Coach - Boys JV Volleyball - Athletics

About the role

Punahou Athletics plays an integral role in the student experience, encouraging student‑athletes to be their best, to be strong team players, and to define winning through teamwork. The Athletics Department supports more than 120 teams in over 30 sports and has been recognized as the top high school athletic program in the country by Sports Illustrated. The school is actively recruiting an Assistant Coach for the Boys JV Volleyball Team to assist the head coach with organizing the sport within the Athletic Program.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach with organizing the needs of the volleyball program.
• Conduct practices and develop comprehensive practice plans.
• Motivate student‑athletes and instruct them in game strategies and techniques.
• Develop offensive and defensive schemes and implement off‑season expectations.
• Apply effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• At least one (1) year of positive and effective coaching experience with a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic program, or related athletic experience.
• Background in teaching preferred, with experience working with adolescents.
• Understanding of the value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level.
• Substantial knowledge of volleyball demonstrated through practice planning, scheme development, and implementation of modern coaching practices.

Position Details

• Work Year: 3 months (Spring Season, 2026‑2027).
• Work Hours: Monday‑Friday late afternoons, and weekends.

Pay

• Stipend Range: $1,560 – $3,450 (compensation commensurate with qualifications).
