Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice

About the role

The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy invites applications for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Research.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and facilitate active learning in the Pharmacy Practice and Care Process (PPCP)/Integrated Pharmacy Laboratory (IPL) sequence (I–V).
• Lead and support skills-based education, including patient counseling and communication, prescription processing and clinical decision-making, drug information and medication therapy management, sterile and non-sterile compounding, physical assessment, and point-of-care skills.
• Contribute to Capstone courses through case-based instruction, simulation activities, student assessment, course coordination, and activities designed to prepare students for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) and contemporary pharmacy practice.
• Deliver instruction in other required and elective clinical courses within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum based on departmental and programmatic needs and the faculty member’s areas of expertise.
• Facilitate recitations, simulations, case-based learning activities, and interprofessional education experiences.
• Absess student performance through skills-based assessments, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), written assignments, care plans, and other appropriate assessment methods.
• Provide timely feedback, remediation, coaching, and mentorship to support student development and professional growth.
• Oversee and mentor Teaching Assistants, pharmacy residents, and other learners assigned to relevant courses and educational activities.
• Precept Doctor of Pharmacy students completing experiential education rotations.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited college or university.
• Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency.
• Minimum of three years of pharmacy practice experience.
• Licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in Rhode Island.
• Experience providing direct patient care and applying the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process.
• Experience precepting student pharmacists or other health professions learners.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, healthcare professionals, community partners, and interprofessional teams.
• Demonstrated effective teaching, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse populations and fostering inclusive learning and clinical practice environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior didactic, laboratory, or experiential teaching experience in a Doctor of Pharmacy or other health professions program.
• Experience providing care to rural, underserved, marginalized, or other populations experiencing barriers to healthcare.
• Experience providing pharmacist services under a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA) or other collaborative patient care model.
• Experience coordinating courses, laboratory sequences, simulations, or large-scale student assessments.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity or demonstrated potential for scholarly contributions.
• Experience developing, implementing, expanding, or evaluating pharmacist-provided patient care services.
• APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certification or willingness to obtain certification.
