Under the general direction of the City Auditor, an Assistant City Auditor II performs routine to moderately complex auditing, technical writing, and editing related to all aspects of audits and testimony engagements, in accordance with applicable standards, as well as non-audit services including investigations, City Commission support, management assistance, and litigation support.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts operational, performance, compliance, and financial audits of City administrative departments, divisions, and programs in accordance with professional Internal Audit standards.
  • Performs audits, audit follow-ups, and special projects per the annual audit plan or mandated requests from the City Auditor.
  • Ensures audit services comply with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS).
  • Maintains documented work papers to support all audit findings.
  • Monitors changes to laws and regulations relevant to municipal finance.
  • Serves as liaison with external auditors and City management regarding department objectives and audit recommendations.
  • Prepares reports of audit engagements, findings, and recommendations for City programs, presenting them to the City Auditor, City Commission, and City Management in written and oral formats as required.
  • Ensures reports are accurate, objective, clear, concise, constructive, and timely.
  • Keeps the City Auditor informed of audit status, completion timelines, and scheduling of entrance and exit meetings.
  • Communicates important findings and developments to the City Auditor.
  • Makes oral or written presentations to City management on accounting controls, contracts, audit reports, and recommendations.
  • Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field (required). A relevant master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible auditing experience (required). An advanced degree may substitute for related experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (required).
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles and procedures (preferred).
  • Experience developing auditing programs and reports (preferred).

  • Management Category I benefits, including ten additional Management Vacation days per calendar year.
  • Monthly Employee Vehicle Allowance of $390.00.

Pay

$102,143.60 - $158,288.62 yearly salary.
