About the role
The Heavy Element Chemistry and Separation Science Group at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a staff member to join the Chemical Sciences & Engineering Division. This individual will develop a basic-science research program in actinide chemistry within a new, state-of-the-art facility designed for safe and effective handling of transuranic elements. They will collaborate with a diverse team of chemists, physicists, and engineers, contributing to the planning and development of new initiatives and research activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct research in actinide chemistry
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on actinide preparative chemistry and solution speciation characterization
- Contribute to the planning and development of new group initiatives and research activities
- Advocate for and participate in external collaborations
Requirements
- Holds a Ph.D. with expertise in chemistry or physics
- Knowledge and experience in actinide chemistry, f-ion aqueous chemistry, spectroscopy, scattering techniques, and synchrotron applications for solution chemistry
- Demonstrated communication skills through oral presentations and publications in top-tier scientific journals
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience, or Doctorate and 0+ years of experience, or equivalent
Qualifications
- International recognition in aqueous f-element chemistry
- Hands-on experience in actinide and transuranic preparative chemistry
- A strong publication record
