Laboratory Assistant

Responsibilities

• Follows CLIA and CA Business and Professions Codes (bpc: 1212, 1269) guidelines.
• Demonstrates good telephone etiquette and greet patients and visitors politely and friendly.
• Possesses good communication skills.
• Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrates a good working knowledge of phlebotomy and related equipment.
• Processes various types of specimens including pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies.
• Keeps storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean.
• Processes or places specimens on laboratory instruments according to established policies and procedures.
• May perform instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, assist in quality control procedures, perform primary culture inoculations, stain slide preparations, and subculture from liquid media with proper documented training.
• Assists in Pathology with training and evaluation.
• Performs runner duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
• State Certified as CPT I or CPT II if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
• Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
