Assistant Cheer and Dance Coach

Functional Responsibilities

• Aid the head coach during practice sessions, workouts, and coaching responsibilities.
• Assist the head coach with office work, study hall, admissions, compliance, and recruiting as directed.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the activities and stay familiar with all applicable college rules and regulations.
• Scout and recruit high-quality student athletes according to the recruiting philosophy of the Head Coach.
• Help prepare and revise informational recruiting and college materials.
• Respond to inquiries and maintain regular contact with prospective students through personal visits and communications.
• Participate in the development and implementation of academic programs, including monitoring student progress and enforcing study and tutorial programs.
• Work with student athletes to ensure adherence to team rules and regulations regarding conduct, appearance, behavior, and class attendance.
• Engage in public relations activities with media, civic groups, and booster clubs to promote the teams and assist in promotional fundraising activities.
• Willingness to chauffeur athletes and equipment to and from practice and/or games.
• Coordinate team travel, equipment issue, and check-in.
• Teach twelve credit hours per year.
• Continuously revise and update course content while maintaining a current syllabus for each course taught.
• Participate on college committees as appointed and actively engage in college and community activities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the institutional assessment plan as required for North Central Accreditation.
• Perform special assignments and related duties as assigned.
• Meet attendance expectations as required for the position, including willingness to work unusual hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

• Fundamental knowledge of cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance techniques.
• Valid Driver’s license required.

Independence Community College (ICC) is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Established in 1925, ICC legally separated from the Independence public school system in 1967. The new community college campus, located on a 68-acre site, opened in 1970. ICC offers 35 programs of study for Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees, 11 programs for Certificate completion, Student Support Services, Upward Bound, men's and women's athletic programs, and a variety of campus organizations and activities. ICC also operates ICC West on 2615 West Main Street, serving technical programs such as Allied Health, Cosmetology, and GED/ABE. The college partners with the Independence Business Resource Center and maintains a presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office.
