About the role

The Assistant Center Manager assists the center manager in ensuring that center staff provides children with a learning environment and varied experiences that will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stages of development toward the overall goal of social competence. The Assistant Center Manager supports the center manager and assumes the center manager’s responsibilities in his/her absence, assists with implementation and maintenance of the educational component, and helps manage the overall operations of the center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in integrating the educational aspects of the various Head Start components in the daily program of activities.
  • Assist in developing specific training activities to enhance teaching skills of center staff.
  • Ensure all staff operate according to the terms of the Head Start Program Performance Standards, TDFPS Licensing, TEA, and NAEYC.
  • Maintain program effectiveness and fiscal accountability for all program supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Conduct annual inventory of equipment and material needs for the center and submit to appropriate central staff.
  • Submit timely acquisition, documentation, and reporting of in-kind and other local match resources related to collaborations.
  • Maintain a current list of classroom equipment and materials purchased by Head Start/Early Childhood Development center funds.
  • Ensure needed instructional and educational materials and equipment are purchased to accomplish the program’s educational and developmental goals for children and parents within budgetary limits.
  • Establish and maintain effective oral and written communication with the Center Manager, collaborative partners, and program team members.
  • Submit all required reports and administrative forms accurately, completely, and timely, including enrollment, attendance, and CACAP information.
  • Conduct classroom and teacher observation and provide onsite consultation to teaching staff as appropriate.
  • Effectively address and resolve all potential and actual difficulties that may arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, Business Administration, or Management required.
  • Texas Teaching Certification desirable.
  • Minimum three (3) years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience desirable; supervisory/management experience can substitute for teaching experience.
  • Excellent mediation, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and successful experience working in teams.
  • Ability to plan, organize, allocate, and control substantial financial, human, and physical resources.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Early Head Start/Head Start/Early Child Development program philosophy and structure desirable.
  • CPR/First Aid certified.

Skills and abilities

  • Bilingual preferred, but not required.
