About the role
The Assistant Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and managing staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensure campers are safe and well supervised.
- Recruit, hire, on-board, develop, direct, and evaluate staff. Motivate staff and achieve goals. Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First).
- Monitor daily operations and ensure compliance/training with state and local licensing/regulations. Oversee logistics and schedules for off-site trips.
- Oversee scheduling of program activities, theme days, and family nights. Communicate performance standards, supervise, evaluate, and motivate staff. Coach, teach, model, reinforce, assist with difficult situations, and correct behavior.
- Connect with staff, campers, and parents, making all feel welcome and included.
- Review concerns, priorities, progress, problems, reports, and matters dealing with camp and programs with the Child Care Director.
- Maintain and oversee supplies and orders. Identify and report maintenance concerns in a timely manner.
- Attend all staff meetings, special events, and training events as scheduled.
- Follow YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years’ experience working at a camp or related experience working with children in a leadership capacity.
- Ability to independently lead and actively participate in a variety of activities.
- Experience in supervision.
- Ability to create and deliver activities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- First Aid & CPR certifications.
