About the role

Under the direct supervision of a medical technologist, perform blood transfusions and a limited number of routine, repetitive, clearly defined analyses for which proficiency has been demonstrated. Perform all other assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Transfuse blood and blood components under the supervision of a medical technologist, following established protocol, including all patient identification and documentation requirements.
• Respond to workload requirements.
• Follow established procedures for infection control and safety.
• Perform routine technical procedures, including preparation of blood and blood components for transfusion, under supervision of a medical technologist according to AABB standards.
• Perform quality control procedures on reagents and equipment according to established protocol.
• Collect blood specimens.
• Assist in instruction of Medical Technology students and new employees in routine procedural techniques, as assigned.
• Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and competency.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Minimum Required)
• Completion of Allied Health Course Work (Preferred/Desired)
• 6 months of experience (Minimum Required)
• One year of experience (Preferred/Desired)

Skills

• Licensure in relevant field (if applicable)
• Proficiency in routine technical procedures related to blood transfusion
