Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities
The Public Access Bureau’s mission is to help people obtain public documents and access public meetings. The Bureau's duties include:
- Reviewing denials of requests to inspect or copy public records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
- Examining allegations of a public body's violation of the requirements of the Open Meetings Act (OMA)
- Investigating and drafting opinions on FOIA and OMA
- Mediating disputes between members of the public and public bodies
- Helping design and provide training relating to FOIA or OMA
- Aiding the Public Access Counselor with other assigned tasks
Qualifications
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Effective communication with citizens, government officials, and members of the media
- Experience with the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, or media-related issues
- Licensed in Illinois at the time of application
Supplemental Information
Salary: Salaries are commensurate with number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and range from $84,480 to $107,550.
