About the role
The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Agency of Human Services Legal Unit, seeks an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General to represent the Vermont Department of Health.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal services to all Department of Health divisions
- Engage with Department leadership and staff daily for advice on public health compliance, enforcement, and policies
- Manage risk, govern data, and protect privacy
- Represent the Department of Health in administrative hearings and civil litigation
- Review state contracts, grants, and access to public documents requests
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in
- Willingness to travel and work independently within a government legal team
Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Relevant experience, especially in Vermont, preferred
- Self-reliance, IT skills, and knowledge of state and federal health law, regulations, and policies (such as HIPAA, 45 C.F.R. Part 2, and Vermont privacy laws) are a plus
- A healthcare or public health background is helpful

Pay
This assistant attorney general position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the Attorney Pay Plan.
