Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the modern principles and practices of drafting.
- Knowledge of mathematics including trigonometry and plane geometry required for basic computations of qualities or areas in making drawings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs drafting, computations, and design duties in the preparation of plans for street drainage, water systems, and other technical projects.
- Prepares and maintains maps, plans, and plats.
- Operates the basic Auto Cad Systems.
- Draws layouts freehand for small city projects.
- Performs associated duties such as collating books, making xerox copies, giving information to the public and other city departments, and performing other general office work.
- Operates the blueprint machine to make blue line and sepia copies; mechanically reproduces project drawings.
- Prepares graphs, charts, and exhibits.
- Affords assistance in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
- Maintains all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Some continuing education from a college or technical school in drafting.
- Two (2) years experience in the practice of civil drafting or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Working inside an office or stockroom closely with others and alone.
- 10% travel by car.
- Exposed to excessive heat, noise, unknown & dangerous conditions, unusual stress, dry atmosphere, around moving objects or vehicles with protective devices, and outdoor elements/conditions such as: dust, dirt, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces.
- Requires straight pulling, repeated bending, simple grasping, crouching, standing, sitting, twisting, kneeling, pushing, walking, stooping, reaching above shoulder, climbing stairs and ladders, moderate carrying up to 44 pounds, and occasional lifting between 25-50 pounds.
- See, write, count, read, identify shades of colors, hear, depth perception, and operate office equipment needed to perform essential functions.
Required Licenses and Certifications
- A valid Texas Driver License.
