Assistant Attorney General (Attorney III), Vulnerable Adult and Medicaid Provider Fraud

About the role

The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Criminal and/or Civil Prosecutor to join the Vulnerable Adult and Medicaid Provider Fraud Unit (VAMPF).

Job Responsibilities

• Review and provide feedback on investigative plans
• Evaluate evidence and assist investigators in identifying potential charges while advising on additional information needed
• Review cases and provide input prior to charging, filing, or closure decisions
• Made independent determinations on the merits of each case and present recommendations to Unit management
• Serve as prosecuting attorney on assigned cases (with supervisory guidance), including drafting indictments, motions, legal memoranda, and other documents
• Prepare and respond to discovery requests and motions; handle court presentations and trials; and respond to data requests and post-conviction/FOIA inquiries
• Represent South Carolina in complex civil litigations, often in conjunction with other states and/or federal partners
• Prepare cases for trial and/or civil litigation and make court appearances on behalf of the State of South Carolina
• Comply with all grant documentation and reporting requirements
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, Chief Deputy, or Attorney General

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and at least five (5) years of practicing experience
• Necessary Requirements: Member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements
• Additional Requirements: Ability to travel statewide to litigate and prosecute assigned cases
• Preferred Qualifications: Criminal prosecution or defense experience, civil court and litigation experience, healthcare and/or white-collar crime experience, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, willingness to become familiar with relevant regulations and laws
