Assistant Athletic Trainer
About the role
The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to support the Sports Medicine program. This position will not consider candidates who require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily health care of student-athletes.
- Record and maintain appropriate medical records for treatment given.
- Interface with various internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange.
- Provide guidance to part time athletic trainers, graduate students, and undergraduate students in the Sports Medicine unit.
- Aid in various teaching responsibilities and in clinical education, providing support in the administrative management of the Sports Medicine unit.
- Medical coverage of men’s football, and/or other sports as needed.
- Transport student-athletes to medical appointments.
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Senior Associate AD for Sports Medicine.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: Two years of certified athletic trainer experience in an NCAA institutional athletic environment.
- Licensure: Eligibility for State Licensure as an Athletic Trainer. Certified Athletic Trainer per the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
- Certification: CPR/AED certifications.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of NCAA, ACC and institutional rules and regulations; strong interpersonal and communication skills; genuine concern and interest for the welfare of student-athletes; ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures; knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures; ability to evaluate therapeutic requirements for student-athletes, and to fit and modify therapeutic and/or protective equipment; ability to function professionally in highly stressful situations and to provide clear information on an impromptu basis to individuals or groups of people; ability to maintain poise in emergency situations and effectively interact with people in a calm, positive manner; ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor; ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with members of the health care and performance team; organizational and computer skills; ability to relate to both men's and women's athletic injuries and rehabilitation of injuries to student-athletes.
Qualifications
- Education: Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years' experience working in a Division I-A institution; First Aid/CPR Instructor; experience working in the supervision and education of student interns and graduate assistants; experience providing Sports Medicine coverage for football and/or acute injuries; experience with performance technologies / movement assessments / post-operative rehabilitation.
- Licensure: CES, PES, FMS, cupping, and/or Graston certifications preferred.
Benefits
Anticipated hiring range: $55,000-$60,000, dependent upon qualifications. This position will not consider candidates who require immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. This position is located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA.
