Assistant Athletic Trainer

About the role

UMD Athletics is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer with primary sport assignments of volleyball and softball, including providing assistance with the athletic training coverage for 16 varsity sports. This position requires availability during evenings and weekends. The incumbent will manage athletic training students, athletic training facilities, and supervise inventory, while working directly with the team physician and other members of the health care network.

Responsibilities

• Deliver athletic training services to assigned intercollegiate athletics teams, including coordination of physical exams, evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and practice/game preventative techniques.
• Provide direct athletic training coverage to teams assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine Services.
• Refer injured athletes to appropriate physicians according to guidelines in the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Communicate with coaches of assigned teams regarding usual and customary information.
• Serve as a preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Programs.
• Supervise athletic training students in the daily operations of the athletic training facility.
• Prepare annual injury and treatment reports for assigned sports.
• Exhibit behaviors in strict compliance with the NATA Code of Professional Practice.
• Utilize technology within an athletic training setting.
• Perform other duties deemed essential to the operation of the athletic training program as assigned by the Assistant Director of Sports Medicine Services.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree.
• Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and Minnesota State licensure eligible.
• Experience in athletic training programs and/or with rehabilitative equipment.
• Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel with teams, including overnight trips.

Preferred Qualifications

• MA/MS degree.
• A minimum of two years working as a certified athletic trainer in collegiate athletics.
• Experience traveling with collegiate athletic teams.
• CPR/FA Instructor certification.
• Demonstrated strong oral and interpersonal skills as a healthcare provider.

Pay

Pay Range: $50,000 per year, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
