Assistant Athletic Trainer

About the Role
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will serve in the Department of Athletics and assist in the daily operations of the athletic training room. This position is responsible for providing healthcare to student-athletes, including the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of student-athletes’ injuries and illnesses under the supervision of Team Physicians, the Director of Sports Medicine, and Head Athletic Trainers.
Responsibilities
- Provide healthcare to student-athletes, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses.
- Communicate and collaborate with Team Physicians and Sports Medicine Staff on treatment and rehabilitation protocols for injured athletes.
- Ensure proper use of athletic training equipment and facilities by student-athletes.
- Maintain medical records on student-athletes, including physicals, insurance information, medical evaluations, rehabilitation reports, and medical referrals.
- Attend workouts, practices, and game events, including travel as assigned, and schedule proper coverage for events (e.g., physicians, EMTs, staff, and student athletic trainers).
- Assist with the maintenance of athletic training equipment, monitor inventory, and prepare budget requests.
- Communicate with coaches regarding injured student-athletes and medical policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the NATA code of ethics, attend annual CEU courses, and maintain current national and state certifications and licensure.
- Comply with University, SEC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Supervise and educate graduate and undergraduate student athletic trainers.
- Complete all other duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainers.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance and foster collegial working relationships.
Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- NATABOC Certification.
- Arkansas Athletic Trainer license (or eligible to obtain license).
Preferred Qualifications
- Independent decision-making experience relating to the care and treatment of injured/ill student-athletes.
- Two years of experience as a BOC-certified athletic trainer.
- Experience developing and implementing treatment and rehabilitation programs.
- Experience with Dry Needling, augmented soft tissue mobilization, and joint mobilization.
- Experience working in the SEC or other Power 5 conference.
- Experience with Gatorade Summer camps.
- Experience providing athletic healthcare for a football team.
Skills
