About the role

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance and works under the license of the Kenyon College Team Physician. This role supports the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for 23 Division III intercollegiate male and female sports while embracing the department’s mission of fostering learning, community, and values such as citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supporting students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation for 23 Division III sports teams.
  • Support Public Open Hours for Kenyon-affiliated members, including club teams, intramurals, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain positive communications and relationships with athletics and academic staff.
  • Demonstrate competency in computer skills (e.g., Google Suite, Healthy Roster, SWAY, PyraMed).
  • Travel with sports teams as directed.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes and parents/guardians.
  • Work independently and manage a schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain BOC Certification, Ohio Licensure, and required Continuing Education Units.
  • Enforce and implement weather policies during extreme conditions (e.g., lightning, tornadoes, extreme heat/cold).
  • Know and update Emergency Action Plans for training room operations and competition sites.
  • Assist with insurance coordination, including claim forms for students.
  • Support physician coverage at athletic events.
  • Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness & Recreation team, contributing to leadership, goals, and program implementation.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with student affairs, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Lead or assist with departmental, divisional, or college committees and initiatives.
  • Be available and visible on campus to build connections with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Comply with College, Department of Athletics, NCAC, and NCAA policies and regulations.
  • Uphold the Department of Athletics’ student-athlete handbook and the College’s mission statements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • NATA Certification.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Eligibility for Ohio State Licensure.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability to industry changes.
  • Creativity and flexibility.
  • Ability to lift/move equipment as required.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and college breaks, with potential for additional travel.
  • College driver certification is desirable.
