Eastern Illinois University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to support the Director of Sports Medicine in providing athletic training services to student-athletes in compliance with university, Ohio Valley Conference, and NCAA policies.

Responsibilities

  • Student-Athlete Health Care & Clinical Services – Provide comprehensive athletic training services including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation using evidence-based practices.
  • Medical Documentation & Record Management – Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical, injury, rehabilitation, and insurance records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and institutional policies.
  • Injury Communication & Care Coordination – Effectively communicate with coaches, physicians, administrators, and other relevant parties regarding student-athlete injuries, illnesses, and return-to-play decisions.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence – Ensure full compliance with University, Department, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, including all applicable medical and safety standards.
  • Athletic Training Facility Operations – Maintain, organize, and contribute to the planning and continuous improvement of athletic training rooms and related medical service areas.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration & Student-Athlete Welfare – Collaborate with University support services, including the insurance office and other departments, to ensure coordinated care and the overall health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Program Support & Departmental Initiatives – Assist in the implementation of department initiatives, including the Substance Abuse Program, and utilize departmental resources appropriately for education and professional guidance.
  • Professional Representation & Development – Represent the Athletic Department and University professionally while engaging in ongoing professional development and contributing to a culture of excellence.
  • Marginal Job Duties – Assist in budget management, support insurance processing, participate in departmental meetings, and contribute to special projects and strategic planning as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
  • NATA certification.
  • Illinois Athletic Trainer License or eligibility for licensure in Illinois.
  • Experience working effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

  • Experience working in collegiate athletics.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience promoting inclusive excellence in educational or athletic settings.

  • Knowledge of athletic training principles and practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

This position will have primary responsibilities with women’s basketball and swimming.
