Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry - SMS-3826

This is an on-site faculty position in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, Division of Adult Psychiatry. The incumbent will provide psychiatric services at SIU Psychiatry locations including Springfield and Jacksonville SIU Clinics, SIU Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), partnering agencies, and hospital services at Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. John’s Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center. The ability to provide Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Teaching (10%)
  • Instruct medical students, residents, and fellows in psychiatry through formal rounds, conferences, seminars, and clinical supervision.
  • Serve as a mentor for second-year student small groups during the neuroscience block once every five years.
  • Participate in residency didactics, present at Grand Rounds or interdisciplinary conferences, and moderate Resident Journal Club and case conferences.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychiatry residents and serve as a mentor for the psychiatry clerkship.
• Service / Patient Care (80%)
  • Maintain a professional outpatient practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy.
  • Provide inpatient and consultation-liaison coverage at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center, including ECT coverage.
  • Participate in the call schedule and routine faculty coverage duties for inpatient and consultation/liaison services on weekends and holidays.
• Research (5%)
  • Establish independent or collaborative research lines and publish at least one peer-reviewed article every three years.
  • Develop publishable scholarly activity and supervise resident research as applicable.
  • Maintain certification per the Springfield Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (SCRIHS).
• Administration / Professional Services (5%)
  • Participate in administrative meetings and serve on departmental and school committees as required.
  • Represent the department to external organizations as needed.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree.
• Completion of four years of approved residency training in psychiatry.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
• Board certified or eligible in Psychiatry; must achieve board certification within three years if not certified at hire.
• Sufficient experience in ECT to be privileged at assigned hospitals (training provided if necessary).
• Willingness to be trained in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Esketamine, and/or Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS).
• Experience providing services to multicultural populations and sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority groups.

Pay

The budgeted annual salary range is $207,500 to $228,250 for the academic base salary, funded through the University. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
