The Department of Communication & Digital Media at Simpson University invites applications for a fulltime Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication and Digital Media. The faculty member will teach in-person courses that may include Oral Communication, Small Group, Communication Theory, Public Relations, Media & Culture, Communication Ethics, Nonverbal Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Media Writing, Sports Communication, Advanced Public Communication, Communication & Organizational Leadership, and Communicating Cross Culturally. Depending on candidate’s strengths, other courses may be taught including Argumentation & Debate, Philosophy & Critical Thought, Convergent Media, and Newspaper Practicum.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Communication, Digital Media, or a related discipline. Master’s degree considered.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence utilizing a variety of teaching modalities.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population and a commitment to inclusion and belonging.
  • A personal commitment to Christ and an ability to integrate faith into teaching, scholarship and service at a Christian liberal arts institution.
  • A promising research agenda that supports undergraduate education is desirable.

Essential Functions

  • Teach 12 units of undergraduate courses each fall and spring semester.
  • Prepare and teach undergraduate introductory and upper-level communication and digital media courses.
  • Utilize Canvas for course management and delivery of content.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students in the communication and digital media major.
  • Provide department support for curriculum design, assessment for degree program, and student recruitment.
  • Serve on faculty committees.
  • Attend department meetings and professional development activities.
  • Ensure the timely completion of assessments, grades, and other reports.

  • Indoors in controlled environment.
  • Equipment Used: Computer, scanner, copier, mouse, keyboard, stapler, 3-hole punch, letter opener.
  • Essential Physical Tasks: Sitting for long periods of time using a computer, walking-normally surfaces, standing, bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling, lifting under 10 lbs, reaching over shoulder, twisting/turning, reaching over head, reaching outward, squatting, crawling, pushing/pulling 11-20 lbs, pushing/pulling 21-50 lbs, pushing/pulling 51-100 lbs, pushing/pulling over 100 lbs, walking-slippery surfaces, driving automatic trans, driving standard trans, handling (grasping, holding), fingering (fine dexterity).
