ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

About the role
The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor whose research integrates emerging analytic techniques to address one or more of these focus areas:
- Environmental exposures linked to cancer outcomes
- Military and defense-related environmental exposures
- Environmental health concerns of Native American populations and tribes
- Children’s environmental health
- Water, food, and air quality impacts on population health
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the department’s research mission through extramurally funded projects
- Teach and mentor graduate students in MS, MPH, and PhD programs
- Support the university’s strategic plan to achieve AAU-level benchmarks in research, teaching, and service
- Expand program reach across Oklahoma with a commitment to student-centered values
Requirements
- Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, or DrPH) in environmental health, industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a closely related field
- Record of publications in peer-reviewed national or international scholarly journals
- Evidence of potential to obtain extramural funding
- For Associate Professor rank: history of external research funding
Preferred Qualifications
- Established record of teaching at the graduate level
- Experience mentoring graduate students, particularly from diverse backgrounds
- Proficiency in emerging analytical techniques (e.g., Big Data, AI, machine learning, geospatial modeling) applied to public health and environmental data
- Experience working on interdisciplinary or community-engaged research teams
About the department
The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health has graduated 250 doctoral and master’s students over 51 years. It offers MS, MPH, and PhD degrees, with an ABET-accredited industrial hygiene program continuously supported by a NIOSH-funded training grant since 2004. Faculty lead community-engaged research, including an EPA-funded Children’s Environmental Health Center in the U.S. Southern Great Plains and a contract with the state health department. Recent multi-year grants and contracts have been awarded by NASA, NSF, CDC, EPA, the State Health Department, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and OCAST.
