About the role

The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) seeks a student-focused faculty member for a full-time position to begin as early as August 16, 2024 at the rank of tenure-track assistant or tenured associate.

This position provides an exciting opportunity for an outstanding scholar with an interest in information discoverability, information retrieval, organization of information, database design, and social aspects of information access.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the academic programs and curriculum development within SLIS.
  • Engage in research and scholarship that advances the field of library and information studies.
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to students in both graduate and undergraduate programs.
  • Participate in professional development activities and contribute to the scholarly community.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience in product management or web services librarianship.
  • Strong commitment to teaching and student success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Research expertise in areas such as information discoverability, information retrieval, organization of information, database design, and social aspects of information access.
  • Experience in developing and implementing information systems and databases.
  • Ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
