Northwestern State University Department of Social Work invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Work in the MSW program with a start date of August 10, 2026.

Job Duties And Other Information

• Be committed to excellence in teaching, service, professional growth, and scholarship.
• Teaching load is 15 hours per semester with 100% designation in the MSW program.
• Some teaching assignments may be for the BSW program as requested by the Department Head.
• Work with the MSW Program Director on the MSW accreditation with the Council on Social Work Education.
• Submit all required documentation, e.g. course syllabi, to the department administrative assistant each semester.
• Provide course instruction in accordance with the course syllabus and department guidelines.
• Utilize a variety of proven teaching methods appropriate to the targeted domain of learning.
• Evaluate students and report progress in a timely manner.
• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor for social work students.
• Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continuing professional development, including attending local, state, regional, and/ or national conferences.
• Engage in scholarly activities including research, presentations, publication, and grant writing.
• Actively engage in service to the social work department by assuming leadership of departmental initiatives.
• Demonstrate knowledge of university, departmental, and program goals and objectives.
• Participate in faculty meetings.
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
• Engage in departmental, college, university, community, and professional service.
• Participate in student recruitment activities.
• Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and the Rules, Standards, and Procedures of the Louisiana Social Work Practice Act.
• Maintain confidentiality relative to student grades and information, in accordance with federal laws and departmental policy.
• Represent the department in a professional manner in all activities.
• Acknowledge and comply with those mandates of the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana which regulate the activity and employment of state employees including but not limited to the "Code of Governmental Ethics", "LA R.S. 42:1101 et seq", and "Dual Office Holding and Dual Office Holding, and Dual Employment LA R.S. 42:61 et seq".
