This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment: ASRM has grown into a dynamic and interdisciplinary unit serving over 300 students across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, and is currently undergoing the approval process to become an independent department within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

About the role

This open-rank, full-time tenure-track position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the mission of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois, where curiosity drives impact. The successful candidate will teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in actuarial science, statistics, risk management and insurance, finance, data science, or a closely related field before the position start date. Candidates whose PhD may be delayed but will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Instructor. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor.
  • Applicants at the assistant professor level must have a promising research agenda and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Applicants at the associate professor level must demonstrate a record of research, teaching, and service indicative of a tenured Associate Professor position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness to provide service to the unit.
  • Research at the intersection of actuarial science and emerging risk and technology.
  • Synergy with current faculty expertise or potential to expand the actuarial curriculum.
  • Experience with administrative roles or curriculum development.

Pay

The budgeted salary range for the position is $100,000 to $130,000 at the Assistant Professor level, and $130,000 to $160,000 at the Associate Professor level, for a 9-month service basis (paid over 12 months). The pay offered will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee. The position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis.
