Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Meteorologist
About the role
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego invites applications for a full-time Researcher in the Oceans and Atmosphere Section. We seek motivated, broad-thinking scientists to develop a vigorous research group and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise in the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E).
Responsibilities
- Expertise emphasizing atmospheric rivers (ARs), with methodologies including, but not limited to, field and aircraft campaigns, climatological data analysis, meteorological analysis at local scales, extreme events, global and/or regional climate modeling, polar applications, forecasting and nowcasting, including precipitation and hydrological impacts.
- Develop and lead an externally funded research program that provides the majority of your salary support.
- Contribute to CW3E program with leadership commensurate with career level.
- Demonstrate independence through publication of novel scientific findings in forefront journals and leading the conception, organization, and execution of research projects.
- Build an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
Requirements
- PhD in Atmospheric or Climate Sciences or relevant/related fields.
- A record of publication and evidence of the ability to conduct and fund an active research program consistent with career level.
- Ability to obtain extramural funding and present a well-articulated plan of securing extramural funding.
- Presently have a funded research program that can be transferred to UCSD.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Atmospheric or Climate Sciences or related field.
- Strong publication record.
- Experience in obtaining extramural funding.
- Active research program.
