Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Law (Energy and Sustainability)

About the Role

This position will serve as a tenure-track or tenured faculty member at the University of Wisconsin Law School. The faculty member will conduct research and teach classes in one or more of the following areas: energy law, environmental law, public utilities regulation, property law, land-use law, torts, civil procedure, consumer law, administrative law (including state administrative law), business law, and climate change law.

As part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) Initiative, this role involves interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges to address complex societal challenges. The successful candidate will join a community of scholars working across disciplines on research, teaching, and outreach, with access to research infrastructure and funding to support collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and teach classes in one or more of the following areas: energy law, environmental law, public utilities regulation, property law, land-use law, torts, civil procedure, consumer law, administrative law (including state administrative law), business law, and climate change law.
• Engage in service to the Law School, University, and profession.
• Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges.
• Contribute to the RISE-Earth hiring priority focused on sustainability, particularly as it relates to energy production.

Requirements

• JD or equivalent degree required.
• Record of outstanding scholarly achievement, or the potential for such achievement, in the study of energy law, public utilities regulation, environmental regulation, and other areas of law intersecting with sustainability.
• Multiple years of teaching experience required for appointment at the associate or full professor levels.

Compensation

Minimum 9-month salary of $150,000. Starting salary and title are negotiable, dependent upon knowledge, skills, and prior experience.
