About the role
The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is seeking an Infectious Diseases Physician-Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in infectious diseases and global public health, and will be expected to teach and mentor students and trainees.
Responsibilities
- Develop innovative, collaborative, and impactful research programs that complement and strengthen the Division’s broader research portfolio.
- Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, residents, trainees, and Infectious Diseases fellows.
- Play integral roles in the continued growth, innovation, and collaborative culture of the Division.
- Clinician candidates may have the opportunity to provide clinical care to patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting, depending on the department's needs and the candidate's training and experience in the relevant clinical area.
Qualifications
- A PhD or equivalent in the area of Infectious Diseases or a related field.
- An MD or equivalent, with a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California, or eligibility for one.
- Candidates with clinical care duties must be board-certified or board-eligible in Infectious Disease and other related fields.
- A demonstrated record of scholarship in infectious diseases, global public health, translational science, implementation science, epidemiology, immunology, virology, microbiology, or related disciplines.
- Experience in collaborative research, teaching, mentorship, and service.
- Experience obtaining independent funding.

Salary is negotiated annually and may vary based on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
