Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor
The University of Mississippi School of Law invites applications and nominations for as many as two tenure-track professors to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. Appointments will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor depending on experience.
About the Role
We invite and encourage scholars in all fields to apply as our teaching needs are quite broad. We are most interested in candidates who wish to teach:
- Torts or Civil Procedure
- Other 1L and Bar-tested subjects such as Criminal Law and Family Law
- Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Business and Commercial Law
- Growing practice areas such as Health Law, Labor & Employment Law, and Insurance Law
Responsibilities
Tenure Track Faculty members perform the functions of teaching, research or creative activities, and service. They are assigned to an academic unit appropriate for their discipline. Tenure Track Faculty members are usually hired as assistant professors and enter the tenure track, with a probationary period of five years and a review for tenure during the sixth year of continuous employment. The probationary period may be reduced for those hired at the associate or full ranks.
Tenure Track Faculty members at the Associate and Full ranks are full members of the Graduate Faculty, while those at the Assistant rank are Associate Members.
Requirements
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school, or equivalent international degree
- Commitment to teaching in an environment dedicated to excellence in teaching and mentoring of students
- Distinguished academic background
- Demonstrated promise or a record of excellence in both scholarship and teaching
The most competitive candidates will have a record of published or accepted law review articles or equivalents and some record demonstrating potential for excellence in teaching.
