Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Teaching in Epidemiology

OTHR$191k–$352k/yrFull-time
We need to output HTML fragment with sections: About the role (maybe Position Overview), Responsibilities, Requirements (Qualifications), Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. Only include sections that have real specific content. From posting: - Position Overview: includes salary range, off-scale salaries, description of role, teaching expectations, etc. So we can have

About the role

with paragraphs. - Responsibilities: listed under RESPONSIBILITIES with bullet points (1) etc. So we can have

Responsibilities

with
  • ... each bullet. - Qualifications: under QUALIFICATIONS with many details. Could be split into Requirements and Skills maybe. But we can have

    Requirements

    for required qualifications, and

    Skills

for preferred qualifications or skills. However we need to ensure we only create sections if there is real content. We have salary info: SALARY section repeats salary range. So we can have

    Pay

with that info. Schedule: Not mentioned specifically (no schedule details). So we should NOT create Schedule section. Benefits: Not mentioned explicitly (no benefits). So we should NOT create Benefits section. We also have start date negotiable but that's not schedule; maybe we could include under About the role? Not needed. We need to preserve all substantive information, not invent. We must not repeat job title as heading. Already not. We must not include Job ID etc. We must remove boilerplate: application instructions, EEO, etc. So we need to strip out APPLICATION PROCESS, UC Davis rankings, location description, etc. Also remove "To apply, visit ..." etc. We need to keep substantive info: Position Overview, Qualifications (required and preferred), Responsibilities, Salary. We need to format as semantic HTML: use

    for section headings,
    • for lists,

for prose. We need to avoid filler like "commensurate with experience". Not present. We need to ensure we don't create empty sections. Let's extract content. Position Overview text: "Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Teaching in Epidemiology Position Overview: The salary range for this position is $190,800 - $352,100. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience. POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Teaching in Epidemiology QUALIFICATIONS: The Weill School of Veterinary Medicine (WSVM) at UC Davis seeks an interdisciplinary Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Teaching in Epidemiology to advance its veterinary education and research mission through pedagogy of epidemiology in veterinary sciences. Professor of Teaching faculty are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on instruction and scholarly activities in their field or involving pedagogy. The appointee will teach courses delivered by SVM in related programs that may include undergraduate teaching, teaching in the DVM curriculum, and in the Graduate Groups in Epidemiology and Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine. Example courses could include courses in basic and advanced epidemiology, public health, vector and infectious disease epidemiology, disease ecology, and biostatistics. The selected candidate must have the ability to teach advanced, quantitatively rigorous material such as advanced epidemiology and applied statistics. The appointee is expected to lead five to eight courses per year as relevant to the Weill School of Veterinary Medicine in professional, graduate, and/or undergraduate programs. An advanced graduate degree (PhD required) in epidemiology or related field, with experience in teaching as an instructor of record or lecturer, is required. A veterinary medical degree (DVM or equivalent) is preferred. The successful candidate must have expertise in epidemiological methods and biostatistics. They must demonstrate successful application of epidemiology in collaborative settings involving topics such as causal inference, population health study design, bias reduction, risk factor analyses, clinical algorithm development, disease surveillance, disease ecology, intervention evaluation, etc. Competence in an appropriate programming language (e.g. SAS, R, Stata) is required. A documented scholarly record or potential to develop innovative scholarly activities in veterinary epidemiology and/or pedagogy is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required for appointment at the Associate or Professor rank, as is evidence of engaging students with limited prior mathematical training. Evidence of leadership skills is required. The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial atmosphere. Preferred qualifications include documented success in the following areas: teaching large classes of 150 or more students, use of evidence-based teaching practices, use of modern instructional technologies, and the ability to identify and develop effective teaching strategies for varied levels of learner expertise in epidemiology. Research experience in animal and/or vector epidemiology and ability to teach advanced epidemiologic methodology (e.g., causal inference, counterfactual theory, methods for assessing heterogeneity of effects or sources of bias) are preferred." Then SALARY repeats salary range. RESPONSIBILITIES: "Teaching: Responsibilities include: 1) developing course materials relevant to epidemiology in the Weill School of Veterinary Medicine for PhD, MPVM, DVM, and undergraduate students; 2) participation in the graduate academic programs of the campus in relevant graduate groups; 3) participation in undergraduate teaching in the Global Disease Biology (GDB) program. Individual will be responsible for instructing and mentoring veterinary medical students, residents, graduate students, and/or post-doctoral scholars, and may develop courses in their area of expertise. Professional and/or Scholarly Achievement: Development of a creative and productive scholarly program in veterinary epidemiology and/or the pedagogy of epidemiology is required. Mentoring support and/or collaboration with residents, students, and faculty are encouraged. Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education, and other appropriate means, is expected." We need to convert numbered list items into

      • . Also the prose sentences can be

. We need to avoid duplication: salary appears twice; we can include once. We need to avoid repeating "POSITION AVAILABLE:" etc. Let's craft sections:

        About the role

Then maybe a paragraph about salary? Could be under Pay section.

        Pay

The salary range for this position is $190,800 - $352,100. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Now Requirements: we need to list required qualifications. From qualifications: required: PhD in epidemiology or related field, teaching experience as instructor of record or lecturer, expertise in epidemiological methods and biostatistics, demonstrated successful application of epidemiology in collaborative settings (list topics), competence in appropriate programming language (SAS, R, Stata), documented scholarly record or potential to develop innovative scholarly activities in veterinary epidemiology and/or pedagogy, demonstrated excellence in teaching (required for Associate/Professor rank), evidence of engaging students with limited prior mathematical training, evidence of leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work collegially. We can put these in a
        • . Also preferred qualifications: veterinary medical degree (DVM or equivalent) preferred, teaching large classes 150+, evidence-based teaching practices, modern instructional technologies, ability to identify/develop effective teaching strategies for varied levels, research experience in animal/vector epidemiology, ability to teach advanced epidemiologic methodology (causal inference, counterfactual theory, methods for assessing heterogeneity of effects or sources of bias). We could split into Requirements and Skills. But the instruction says use

for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). So we can have Requirements and Skills separate. Let's put required items under

          Requirements

          and preferred under

          Skills

(or Qualifications). But we already have About the role; we could also have Qualifications as a section containing both required and preferred. However we need to avoid thin sections. Let's do Requirements (required) and Skills (preferred). That seems fine. Now Responsibilities section: we have list. Let's extract responsibilities items: - developing course materials relevant to epidemiology in the Weill School of Veterinary Medicine for PhD, MPVM, DVM, and undergraduate students; - participation in the graduate academic programs of the campus in relevant graduate groups; - participation in undergraduate teaching in the Global Disease Biology (GDB) program. - Individual will be responsible for instructing and mentoring veterinary medical students, residents, graduate students, and/or post-doctoral scholars, and may develop courses in their area of expertise. - Professional and/or Scholarly Achievement: Development of a creative and productive scholarly program in veterinary epidemiology and/or the pedagogy of epidemiology is required. - Mentoring support and/or collaboration with residents, students, and faculty are encouraged. - Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education, and other appropriate means, is expected. We can turn each into
        • . Now we need to ensure we don't include boilerplate like "POSITION AVAILABLE:" etc. Now produce HTML fragment. Check for any repeated content: we included salary only once. Check for any mention of start date negotiable: we omitted; it's not required to include but it's substantive. However we didn't have a Schedule section; start date could be placed under About the role maybe as a sentence. But the instruction says only include sections when posting has real specific content for it. Start date is a specific content; we could add a sentence in About the role: "Start date is negotiable." That would preserve info. Let's add that. Also we might include "Off-scale salaries" already in Pay. Now ensure we didn't include any application instructions, EEO, etc. Let's craft final HTML. We'll need to escape any apostrophes? Not needed. Let's write:
