Position Summary

The Indiana University School of Medicine, in conjunction with Regenstrief Institute Clem McDonald Center for Biomedical Informatics, is seeking a visionary and experienced physician leader to serve as the Program Director for its ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program. The Program Director will oversee all aspects of the fellowship, ensuring compliance with ACGME requirements, fostering excellence in education, and advancing the field of clinical informatics through innovative training and research. The Program Director will have a primary appointment as an open rank clinical faculty position in the IU School of Medicine. The Director will further have a secondary appointment as an Associate Director for Education with the Regenstrief Center for Biomedical Informatics. The physician leader will have the opportunity to practice in the IUSM-affiliated health systems. Candidates can have any clinical specialty, and they must be an existing Diplomat in Clinical Informatics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Administration - Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the CI fellowship curriculum. Ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation standards and institutional policies. Lead recruitment, selection, and onboarding of CI fellows. Manage program budget and resources in collaboration with programmatic and departmental leadership as appropriate.

  • Educational Oversight - Develop and deliver didactic and experiential learning opportunities in clinical informatics. Supervise fellows’ scholarly activities and clinical rotations. Provide mentorship and career guidance to fellows. Evaluate fellows’ performance and provide regular feedback.

  • Faculty Development & Collaboration - Recruit and develop a faculty team with expertise in informatics, clinical care, and research in coordination with the Regenstrief Center for Biomedical Informatics and IU department chair. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across departments and institutions.

  • Quality Improvement & Innovation - Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement in education and clinical informatics practice. Lead initiatives that integrate informatics into clinical workflows to improve patient care.

  • Research & Scholarship - Support fellows in conducting informatics-related research and publishing findings. Maintain an active scholarly presence in the field of clinical informatics.

Basic Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree with active board certification in a primary specialty

  • Diplomat in Clinical Informatics

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical informatics practice or education

  • Active in clinical practice, regardless of clinical specialty

  • Prior experience in graduate medical education preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Indiana

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ACGME-accredited fellowship programs

  • Track record of scholarly activity in informatics

  • Familiarity with clinical decision support systems, health information exchange, and clinical AI applications
