ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR - Industrial & Systems Engineering

Faculty position in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE), University of Florida. Tenured/tenure-track, nine-month appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, anticipated start date August 2026.

About the Role

The ISE Department seeks an outstanding individual with expertise in Industrial and Systems Engineering and/or interdisciplinary methods—such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, AR/VR, operations research, human factors, structural health monitoring, and robotics—with a research focus on Industrialized Construction for applications in infrastructure, transportation, and related fields.

This position supports the growth of the HWCOE and ISE in Industrialized Construction Engineering. The HWCOE houses the country’s largest and most advanced 3D construction printer, which will be integrated into research and curriculum across multiple departments, including construction, manufacturing, materials, data analytics, operations research, structural health monitoring, coastal resilience, safety, design, and sustainability.

The ISE Department will lead interdisciplinary research and education in Industrialized Construction Engineering, incorporating AI, digital twins, AR/VR, operations research, and human factors. The department offers BS, ME, MS, and Ph.D. degrees, with approximately 475 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Faculty research spans advanced manufacturing, energy systems, healthcare systems, manufacturing systems, supply chain systems, and transportation systems, with methodological strengths in data analytics, machine learning, human systems engineering, optimization, simulation, and stochastic analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain a strong, externally funded research program in Industrialized Construction.
• Maintain a record of high-quality publications.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in ISE, promoting innovation in learning.
• Contribute to curriculum development in ISE-related topics.
• Engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research across HWCOE and UF, as well as with external partners.
• Actively participate in departmental, school, and professional service.

Requirements

• PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
• Demonstrated excellence in research, with potential for or a record of external funding.
• Solid journal publications in Industrialized Construction.
• A strong commitment to teaching and student success, appropriate to the applicant’s rank.
